Sustein is the winning startup of the Smart Builders Pitch Competition

Aticco presented the Smart Builders Pitch Competition during the Tomorrow.Building event in Smart City Expo World Congress, an opportunity for innovative startups who are working on shaping the future of building to share their projects with an international audience.

  • Square Sense with Phillippe Khoury
  • ARTIAL with Egor Folley
  • Cellgrid with Michael Malkin
  • Nidus Lab with Ana Lozano
  • Nobody Engineering with Heremaia Durie

A panel of judges, consisted of Juliana Ting, Innovation and Strategic Development Manager at Smart City Expo World Congress; Ione Ruete, Tomorrow.Building World Congress Director; Marta Pujal, Innomads Proptech Hub Director; Alex Caudet, Managing Partner at RaiseTheBar.tech; and Quino Fernández, CEO of AticcoLab, selected the winner of the competition: SUSTEIN.

SUSTEIN, upcycling healthcare waste into construction materials

The Spanish startup presents a solution that changes the status quo of healthcare waste and provides local solutions to transform it into resource and carbon efficient materials for architecture and design. They manufacture thermal insulation products and particle boards that can be used to create not only part of a building, but also walls that can be converted into enclosures and thus houses.

What we do is collect all healthcare waste and turn it into construction materials. (…) The idea is to change the way healthcare waste is managed and turn an economy that is linear nowadays into a circular economy, in order to create the first system, from the collection of the waste to the product’s transformation.”

Simon Gonzalez, CEO and founder of SUSTEIN

Simon remarked on the fact that participating in this pitch competition within an event as Smart City Expo World Congress can change your perspective as an entrepreneur and make you dream big, but it also helps you focus on the steps you need to take in order to expand to new horizons.

As the winning startup of the pitch competition, SUSTEIN will receive up to 25K in prizes that include 3 months of free membership at Aticco Workspaces, a consulting session with an advisor from AticcoLab network, an article on their project in Tomorrow.City magazine, and a booth in the Startup Area of Smart City Expo World Congress 2024, among others.
